It Takes Two
The best modern couch co-op game, full stop. Designed exclusively for two players. Constantly inventive — every level has a new mechanic.
Story isn't deep, but the gameplay is genuinely brilliant. 12-15 hours total. Most couples finish it.
Overcooked 2 and Cuphead
Overcooked: chaotic kitchen co-op. Easy to learn, immediately funny. Will test your relationship in a healthy way.
Cuphead: 2-player run-and-gun. Beautiful 1930s animation. Hard but fair — bosses become memories you laugh about later.
Lego Star Wars (and other Lego games)
Lego games have been the gold standard for kid-and-parent co-op for 15+ years. Drop in/out, no fail state, lots of collectibles.
The Skywalker Saga is the most polished. Even non-Star-Wars-fans enjoy it.

Lego games and Overcooked, yes. It Takes Two has some intense scenes; 12+ recommended. Cuphead is too hard for younger kids.
Are these on Switch/Xbox?+
All four are multi-platform. Switch is the easiest casual setup; PS5 has best graphics.
What about online co-op?+
It Takes Two has Friend's Pass (one buy, two play remotely). The rest are best in person.
